    Hello,

I have a interview with a Asilynot Trucking Company that leases there trucks to Panther Transportation. Are either one of these a good company? Do they have any work or are they slow also? I have just finished cdl school with no otr experience should I just be happy for the job offer or look for a better company.
What question should I ask in the interview? What should I look for?
    Thank you for your time

If you have a interview with some one, Just go for it. It is hard right now to find a job so take any job you can have. Just with any type of company like panther, You need to be ok about being out on the road for a few month at a time and be ok with waiting for loads. Fraight is slow but there is stuff out there.

    Good luck

    Oldcarguy,

I run panther loads but I can only speak about tractors, not straight trucks or vans. I own my own truck so I also can't speak about the fleet owner you mentioned, never heard of him.

Panther is a pretty good company. It is 100% owner operator, meaning panther owns no trucks but contracts with o/o's for all freight. Freight is slow right now compared to the past and the bad thing is this is the busy season so I don't even want to think about what this winter will be like.

All companies are hurting for freight in this economy but if you are driving you are making money so yes, I agree with what was stated here. If you can get a driving job, grab it and run, especially these days. Last year at this time I was stealing money running fat profitable loads. Most of these fat loads have disappeared. At panther you can still make ppretty darn good money running loads to either canada or nyc. Cats that won't run to either of these two destinations are struggling. You don't have to be hazmat rated but it helps.

You will attend a two-day orientation at panther hq in seville, oh. You will bring your truck and while in class your truck will be fitted for a qualcomm satellite unit and decals.

Here is the deal panther drivers have to get past. You will sit. More than with other companies. But you will make as much or more than with other companies. That is expediting. You roll when the phone rings. And guess what? If that phone rings into panther at 3am, panther will hit your qc at 3:15am and follow up with a phone call. You might be an hour and a half out from pu and there are 10 pallets waiting for you in Cleveland for a 5am pu delivering direct to Baltimore by 4pm that same day. Or more likely you have to pu at 10pm and deliver direct for a 7am unload. Car parts to keep factories operational are a big part of expediting, which is also why freight is slow now what with the horrible struggles of the auto manufacturers.

So I can make as much or more driving 1600-2000 miles a week as a guy driving 3500 miles a week for another company. That means I don't have to work as hard but more importantly, neither does my truck, which means my maintenance and repair costs are way lower. I have paid off my rig so everything after repairs, fuel, tolls, insurance, etc. drops to my bottom line. I gross around $3000-3500 every Friday and clear roughly $1200 to $2000 depending on how good a week I had. What really helps is if I get a long weekend load. Nothing starts off a week like a fat weekend load that delivers first thing Monday morning. It feels like you are driving downhill the rest of the week.

Some guys come on to panther and cannot get past the sitting. They may last a couple weeks going stir crazy and quit. Their pay was as good or better than their last job but the sitting just kills them. Seen it happen and it is, in my opinion, ignorant. You are running important freight for less miles and making more money. Get over it. And enjoy your downtime. Get a dog (I did) and take him for long walks. It is great exercise. Join Netflix and gain access to lots of cheap movies. Get a hobby. There are a million interesting things you can do when you don't have to be behind the wheel 12-14 hours a day everyday. I am trying to write a Hollywood screenplay with my extra time. Or buy a set of golf clubs. Not my thing but their is a golf course within 10 miles of everywhere, right?

Anyway that is panther. It is not for everyone but I believe it is one of the elite transportation companies out there. Good luck to you.

NO 45% after you POD out is what they are set up for PAy is all based on how your fleet owner has it set up Unless you own your own truck then it is how you and Panther set it up for you to get paid

Drove Team for Panther Straight truck. Panther is awesome. It is the truck owners you need to be aware of. Panther getting bad rep due to owners who take advantage of the drivers. If you have a good owner who is straight with the driver and takes care of the truck, and allows the driver home time.....you will want to stay with them.

We went thru 3 different owners while we ran for Panther. Know what we are saying in this. Been there. Panther does not own the trucks or the drivers. They will get the loads tho. Loved rollin with panther. Finding the right owner is a different story.

The rule of thumb in the trucking industry: run your drivers for as long as you can, pay them as little as you can and when they quit......hire another.
There are alot of owners out there that live by this rule. There are also good owners who treat their drivers right and have low turnover because of it. BEWARE THE TRUCK OWNERS. Ask to speak to the drivers of an owners fleet before you sign on.
