Hey folks Headed to KLLM soon, just wanted to know about putting my own cd deck in a company truck, I wanted to connect my ipod to it so I can have my audiobooks and music , does a company mechanic have to do this? or is there an attachment I could buy to hook the ipod up to the deck already in place? Thanks
I dunno about other makes, but Kenworth wires their stock stereos in with electrical tape. I just untape it, cut the power wire, and use wire nuts to tie it all together. When I'm done with that truck, I just reverse the process. Can't tell the stock radio was ever messed with. They make a set of tools you can find at some truck stops, shaped like a U, that will unlock the stock radio so you can pull it right out. Make sure the company won't boot you if they see it, though. Some are re-tardedly strict about modifications.
If its a late model truck it may have an aux input jack on the front. If its old it may have a cassette player and you can buy an adapter cassette to plug in the ipod. If it had neither I would ask the shop to install an aftermarket that I purchased.
The new KW's come with that removal kit in the glovebox standard, two u shaped pins that go into holes at the side of the factory radio. Radio pulls right out of the console
I hear you can use finishing nails also. All the tool does is push in some spring loaded tabs so the radio will slide out of the mounting bracket.
I would imagine that would work the pins are only 1/8" dia or so as long as you press in on all 4 you should be good to go
Yeah, the U shaped brackets are designed to give you something to hold onto to pull the radio out. You can release the clips with anything but then you have to get a grip on the radio to get it out.
FYI KLLM's trucks *Freightliner cascadias and columbias mostly* come with xm ready cd players with no aux jack. you can get aftermarket cd players, but they MUST be installed by kllm mechanics.
