Installing a pump on the truck, space is an issue.

Was wondering if any of you have had a pump installed on a truck with an Apu. I guess I'll get the answers soon enough when I go to a shop to see about it. But I don't see a lot of space to work with. The pump would usually go where the Apu is. I guess it could go on the other side and just run a hose across. But there's not a lot of space over there either. Would probably have the steps removed.

I might be doing some long distance trips so still want the Apu.

 

I don't have an apu but mine is on the drivers side. The fuel tank was shortened to accomodate. Which really sucks. The passenger side was also shortened but not as much. I have no idea why. LOVE having only 100 gallons out of what used to be 240 gallons.

I have an 07 w900. Was once a Werner sleeper truck. Now it's a daycab with really long frame.

 

Yeah I have Frgtlnr 72inch sleeper but the the tanks are small , only 100 gals each side. But maybe this isn't going to work without chopping it up.

 

Depending on the pump you’ll be using you can mount it on catwalk behind the sleeper. That’s how I did mine to avoid pulling off fairings.

 

You can install a tower on the passenger side and use that as an additional mounting location. My compressor is mounted to a tower but my stack had to be removed for a weed burner.

 

Mount it on the rear of the frame.

 

Wow, never saw that kinda' set-up. Mildly inconvenient I suppose. How does it work for you?

 

I watched a guy with a plasma cutter make thin steel mounts to fit the gasket area where the end plates of a roper style pump join the body.

That allowed him to fab mounts from inside the frame rail web that looked like only the pump hung down just enough to line up a shaft from a side-mounted PTO with the 90 degree pump housing so a pipe directly in and a 90 plate to send bottom facing outlet back out underneath the inlet.

There are a lot of ways depending on the pump, etc.

This under the rear of the frame would shorten the amount of suction hose needed and would work great with a short hose if the trailer had a nose line...does anyone still have hard piped 'nose' lines?????

 

That was a company truck setup. I wanted to do it myself, but it was going to be a PITA and I had the room behind my tank.

I drove the company truck for 6 weeks while I was doing an OH, it was great. Only needed 1 hose for a center and 2 for a rear. Instead of 2 & 3 line now. We very rarely need to pump off, so I deal with it, but if I was pumping a couple times a week, I'd spend the money and mount the pump on the rear for sure.
