Obviously since this is an online forum, many of you actively use the internet every week, if not every day. What do some of you OTR drivers use for internet connections? Cellular data plans, or? Also, do most truck stops such as Pilot or TA have free wireless for customers?
You need to use the Forum Search more man, you've got like 10 threads goin', heh. There's a whole subforum dedicated to this. But to answer, myself, I use a mobile Wifi hotspot via my Android. $20/mo.
I used to have Mifi through Verizon but a few weeks back decided to teather my phone to use for internet service. Saves me $40 bucks a month plus I was going over my 5gb limit and my internet plan on my phone is unlimited. Trucks stops have internet that imo cost a fortune and will be slow when too many people use it. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Wow I was really hoping that truck stops such as Pilot or TA would have free wifi for truckers that want to catch up on emails, weather, maps, etc...
Free Wifi? You think Truckstops run a Charity....? Some have Free Wifi it's few and far between though. I also use my Phone as a Hotspot.
I cant think of anything you get frree at a truckstop. Sometimes if a there is a motel adjacent to the truckstop you can use the motels wifi but I've heard alot of motels require a password to use wifi. I always just used truckstop wifi, it wasnt too expensive when I drove last in 2007, but you dont get a good signal everywhere in the parking lot I tried to stop early so if I didnt have a good signal I could move to another part of the lot
Get used to truck stops, especially the large chains like Pilot/TA breaking it off in you every opportunity they get. Some others do offer free WiFi. AmBest in Tye TX has good free service. Just have to see what you can find. Lot of sleepers out there.
Also, if you are parked somewhere, say a Walmart, many times there will be other stores in sight. Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, etc offer guest Wifi. You just need to open your browser and agree to their ToS.
mifi hotspot from verizon 8gb's of use and my netbook laptop make a great combo saves me a fortune then going through wifi less aggravation works just about everywhere best $80 bucks i ever spent oh and its tax deductible haha
