Involved in a collision... Advice please

Last night, I was tangentially involved in a collision. Here is what happened:

I was off duty/sleeper berth status while my co-driver/ trainer was driving and had stopped to scale our load, get fuel, hit the bathroom and get a snack before returning to the road. About 30 minutes later, I had finished my snack and was about to return to sleeper when my co-driver collided with a squad car. I had seen the entire situation unfold and had I been driving, my reaction and result would have been different. Since I was in the vehicle, officers took my dl as well as his, issuing him a ticket for reckless driving(a 4 point violation in Colorado?).

This is me being selfish in wanting to know if this will affect me in any way other than being asked to be a witness?

That being said, our employer(fly by night organization, don't get me started) has yet to allow us to get into a motel room at company expense, knowing that it is going to be 36-48 hours before the truck is even looked at. It would be one thing if we were on a 34, or were waiting for a dispatch and able to roll, but that went out the window when we arrived to the dealer lot with a closed gate with a vehicle that wasn't road worthy. Is it unreasonable for the company to expect us to stay in the truck or get a motel room nearby at our expense?

 

You will get nothing on your record and your company should pay for the hotel,well, a good company would.

 

Ask them to bus you out of there.to get you on another truck. Don't hold your breath on them paying your room and meals and warm blankets. Pfff.

Better yet..get an Uber..get to a grayhound and get home. Then find a company that doesn't leave you stranded.

 

Is your trainer a company driver or lease operator? That might answer the question as to how fast you will be getting into a motel. Also colliding with a squad car might not endear him to the company either. Does he still have a job?

Are you indebt to this company for schooling? If so, do see if they will get you another trainer.

 

Call your company yourself and get back to terminal. Your trainer and his truck might be in shop for a week. His training days are over. He will be lucky to keep job.
You should get to greyhound and go to terminal and get new trainer.

Your company should get you a room.I imagine your trainer will no longer train.I'm thinken you'll get a room for the night take bus back to terminal tomorrow and you'll get another trainer Monday.

 

He ran over a cop ??? WTF ??? Bad enough, and unfortunate enough to collide with anything. ... but the PO???

I guess it's asking too much for some dash cam footage. I'd sure like to see that.

Be proactive and call the company yourself. This is not on you, whatsoever, and you should not be forced to suffer in any way for someone else's mistake. If they are gonna leave you hanging out to dry , I'd say that gives you probable cause to cut and run.

I'm no lawyer.... but I have shagged one or two in my day.

 

No, he hit the squad car while an officer was standing on the shoulder... This is near the end of my 'training period'..... And I have more reasons to need to separate, but not without a place to go right away.

 

I separated from my trainer for the moment and called to ask about how this will affect me with them and was assured that I would not be affected and they were working on accommodations for me/us while this sorts out...
