You see a lot of truckers with laptops these days...not to mention smart phones. So I was wondering if anyone has tried using an IPad? I bought an IPad2 this weekend and I can't put it down. It's lite weight, compact, and fast compared to my laptop...not to mention awesome battery life. I've already got my Netflix set up on it as well as various GPS and weather radar aps installed. There is pos and cons I'm sure but I can't wait to check it out in the field.

I've went back and forth my self for a long time. It just seemed way to much for something to play around with. Then I got a job hauling diesel for the oilfield. I generally have a lot of free time on my hands (all while being on the clock) and picked up a smart phone and a portable dvd player. Well my eyes started bugging after a while of stearing at that small phone screen. So I got the idea again about the IPad. Hopefully it works out.

I love mine. Easy to swap movies from my computer. Netflix and Hulu+ are great.

Got a couple truckstop apps. Games, weather and usual stuff.

You can peck out an email or two. Longer ones, or lengthy posts here at TR I save for my laptop.

    I barely use my laptop.

Only downside is IPad doesn't do Flash. S

Oh, and I bought mine early when ATT was offering unlimited data plan.

They've since put in place a tiered plan.

I'm still new to Apple but i heard you can use Flash by "Jailbreaking" your IPad.

Yes ma'am, they start out about 20.00 a month for roughly an hour or so use a day. I'm doing a 35.00 a month plan which is about 5 hours a day.

I've been interested in the ipad, but I'm having a hard time justifying purchasing one for the price. Why did you get an ipad, and what makes using one so interesting (in your opinion)? The technophile in me is having a hard time figuring out if I should save up for one.

One thing is size. I was going to upgrade my old laptop and buy a wireless card for it. Then I got to thinking about the size. I spend a ton of time in a day cab. So i don't have a lot of room to start with. I can do most if not all of the things on it that I usually do on my laptop but I can store it in my clip board. I look like a traveling sales man with my laptop case. Also, I haven't tried it yet but a co-worker programs his directions in his IPad using google maps and then places it on the dash like a GPS but with a bigger screen.

    JimDriv3r Thanks this.

Only if you buy one that is 3G capable.

    All models have wi-fi.

So you have to decide on color(iPad 2), memory size also
