Is it worth it to get a driver camera facing the road?

I would like to know what are drivers thoughts on having a driver camera that is facing the road to protect my cdl? Would it be worth it or just a pain in the butt to have that on? I am very worried that some car or truck will cut me off and result in an accident.

Walmart sells one for 20 bucks, don't know how good it is. However i'm going to buy one to put into my personal truck and see how well it does.

 

Definitely worth it as any motorists involved in accident with truck is looking to score millions. I bought the Garmin 6" GPS with built in dash cam for around $400. Good gps, (not great), but the video from camera is great.

 

Get a good camera. Buy one already. Put some money on it. Don't do the cheap 20 dollar one if you can have a quality one for say 70 dollars or so.

We could have used a camera ourselves the other night two people ran across the freeway in front of us in Arkansas and one got across the other saved himself under our brakes. A few moments of video tape in court would have resolved the entire future in a few moments should he have been hit and killed. They were stupid crossing the way they did on foot in rush hour. I regret not having a good camera to record that for live leak or something to show the world just how stupid they were.

We got one in the car now. No worries.

It's like they say in the weapons world. It's best to have it right then when you need it than not to wish you have one and spend the last of your life regretting never getting one.

 

I have a garmin, got it at Costco. It works well.

 

I've been reading about dashcams in trucks and I haven't seen any consensus about a good one. Whether you spend a little or a lot you are lucky to get even 1 year out of it before it breaks. If you get one, do not get one built into your expensive truck GPS. You will pay more than GPS only, and when it fails you get to but another dashcam and find a place to mount it. Chances are your company will have a dashcam in your truck before you get hired.

 

Mine is over a year old. Costco has an excellent returns policy.

 

Sounds very good but to have one. Would that be something that I would need to get when I am with my mentor or something that I can put off when I become a solo driver?
