One of my CDL classmates went to Prime straight out of school. I recommended Prime to him based on what he was looking for and what I've read posted here on TTR about Prime. He found them to be a first class, no BS company, they have their schtuff together, and he's not been disappointed.
These kind of questions have been asked millions of times. In the mega carriers, it's all about a 50/50 shot. You take care of to your dispatcher, he will take care of you.
What is your definition of good company? Some drivers want to feel like a person and not a number. They want their dispatchers to understand them and pat them on the back, give them a shoulder to cry on when they have a bad day in traffic, hold their hand whenever a crisis arises, send them a Christmas card and remember the wife's birthday so they dont even have to ask about the hometime. I'm a little different. I'm here for the money. So what is it that you want from a trucking company? Everyone has different needs.
You do understand the 'crawl before you walk' concept, dont you? In order to BOTH good home time AND good money, odds are you will probably have to compromise on one or the other until you pay your dues.
Add nice equipment into the mix. Good Money, Regular Hometime, Nice Equipment. You only get to pick one of those three.
You will have to ask Prime, but they may have some dedicated stuff in your area which would get you home more; same with Schneider. For example Prime has flatbed, tanker, reefer; so ask which would be best for you living where you do. Schneider has a better mix of trucking, but the same questions would apply. I prefer the larger companies, usually better benefits. Could not care less if the dispatcher knows my name or not, just run me, pay me good, and leave the petting and goo-goo gaa-gaa out of it.
