Just finished school and obtained my cdl looking for a company that appreciates a dedicated hard worker with a great attitude. A guy in my class said he was going with Swift and said I should check them out too. Can anyone share some insight ? I want to go OTR and make it home at least once a month..:biggrin_25510:

Perfect Fit........in your situation, where your not picky about home time, Stevens and Prime might be a good choice......heck they will keep you out up to 6 weeks!!!

Any of the "newbie" outfits would be ok for you. Schneider, Swift, JB Hunt, Werner...any company hiring new drivers.

Best thing you can do is look to see who has what you are looking for...just check out the websites. After you have seen what they have to offer than call a recruiter. If it seems like a good fit..then go with them. At this point you just need to "pay your dues" and get some experience under your belt. As far as all the companies that are going to hire you it is basically same ##### different company name.

Once you get time under your belt...I am talking a year or so, then you may decide whether you want to stay with that company or look for another that is going to pay you better. When you first start trucking they start you at the bottom pay scale and staying with the same company you won't get raises very fast. So, it is best to stick it out a year than move on to somewhere that will pay you what the prevailing wages are.

    Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat. As of now I plan on going with Swift. They definitely are the best of all the out of school companies I have checked with. But do let me know if you find better.

I don't think they are the best choice out of all the starter companies. Most of them are pretty average. (This statement doesn't include werner). I will say this, if you choose a company purely based on another guy going to them.. well then it most likely isn't going to be a good fit for you.

However, I see that your asking for insight which is a great sign. I don't have personal insight into their company, but I've heard both negative and positive things. (Like every other company) Out of school I went with Roehl because after a few months of researching they had everything I wanted from a starter company. (Home time, pay, training pay, etc). And to be quite honest this company has made me very happy with my choice. Not even 4 months in and I got a Christmas bonus which surprised me. But that is me. People hate Roehl and many have posted on here negative about them.

Ok ok, lets cut this short because I'm rambling on. My point is, I had a positive experience with Roehl, others had a negative. I posted positive while 3 others posted negative. Your going to see more negative then positive in this industry and it is up to you to decipher what you read. Believe it or not, your first choice on what company you go to after schooling will either make you, or break you. You go with a company you enjoy everyday your out, well you will be happy. But choosing the wrong company can make you end up hating it.. Get my point? Hopefully you do because I am dog tired and having a hard time getting what is in my mind onto this funny little box full of my words.

You gotta start somewhere...... i started there

i do hope that statement is not based on what recruiters told you...
i know for a fact that recruiters NEVER tell lies unless their mouth is moving :biggrin_2559:
Remember that their job is to get you into Orientation, not to keep you working there........

Swift is a starter company like several other companies. Go to a truck stop seek out some Swift drivers and ask. If it's a good fit apply, if not try another till you find a company you are comfortable with.

This is a pretty good idea. You will learn quick what is BS and what is true. Actually, alot of what you hear is straight BS from other drivers. Hahaha y'all drivers cant deny that

Swift starts drivers at .25 per mile.

I know because I stayed on with swift, I'm still with them, I'm just not a job hopper. If I had a 2nd chance I would have went with us express they start at .31 cpm

Swift does have an excellent terminal network and on road dept, my dms have been good (so far)!
