isx fan randomly comes on

anyone have any info or where to look? i have a newer isx and the clutch fan has started to randomly come on for no apparent reason . coolant temp is around 180-186 when it comes on by it self the oil temp 225-230. air pressure 105 or more in both tanks . i cant see a pattern when it comes on nothing is hot. the a/c and defrost is off , engine brake turned off. what are all of the sensors that will command the fan come on is it just oil , water , and a/c pressure switches? if a/c switch was bad could it comand the fan if the a/c was turned off? hate to go to the dealership for something that is so random and just give them money to say they cant duplicate it. thanks all.

 

Oil temperature is the trigger.

 

why? 220-230 is normal for the isx is it not? im under the impression once it get to 240-250 your having issues

 

It may have nothing to do with temps. It may be an intermittent wire connection at the fan solenoid or a/c pressure switch. Also, make sure you don't have a sleeper a/c control panel and the sleeper a/c is still on even though the cab is turned off.

 

It a 2013 w900 any idea where the solenoid is located ? Thanks

 

Usually on the firewall. Should be feed by a 1/4" air line with another 1/4" air line going to the fan clutch with an electrical connector. You can also try to run the engine, open the hood and gently wiggle wiring around to see if you can trigger the fan and locate a bad wire. Locate your ac lines and then locate the ac pressure switches and give those a little wiggle too.

 

Do you ever notice it when pulling? Air Intake temps can trigger it. Like a leaking cac

 

Most of the time it comes in when pulling on flat ground where it not much load in the motor.ndo you know what temp triggers it I have a scan gauge

 

Looks like air intake temps seems to hangs around 80-95 can't image that to much air temp outside 55-60 had a 6.5 mpg quickly fell to 5.5 on the dash this morning . Came out for no reason abiut 15 times in. 100 miles

 

Not intake temps at that temp. More likely A/C or bad wiring connection. Should be able to idle and wiggle connectors and see if fan comes on
