    Dear Steve,
Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36th) has introduced H.R. 3282, "The Electronic Logging Device Extension Act of 2017." The bill seeks to amend the current ELD implementation date by two years until December 2019, allowing more time to further evaluate the readiness of the mandate. After months of meeting with lawmakers and explaining the harmful impacts ELDs will have on small-business truckers, OOIDA believes the passage of this bill is our best chance to defeat the mandate. We are now at a critical stage where adding Congressional Cosponsors to the legislation will help the delay get signed into law and we need your help. Please contact your Representative and tell them to cosponsor H.R. 3282 today. Let your lawmakers know that:

The ELD mandate is a one-size-fits-all approach to an industry that is anything but one-size-fits-all
    • Small-business truckers will bear the majority of the $2 billion in ELD costs without realizing any safety, economic, or productivity benefits.
    • FMCSA has failed to address a variety of issues associated with the mandate.
Your U.S. Representative needs to hear from you! You can find contact information for your lawmakers by clicking HERE and typing in your ZIP code.

Support for H.R. 3282 will provide more awareness about why ELDs are so costly for owner-operators and professional drivers. OOIDA also believes this bill will also reveal the significant concerns with the mandate that remain unresolved, including the certification of devices, connectivity problems in remote areas of the country, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities. As we gain Congressional Cosponsors for the House of Representatives legislation, we continue pursuing similar efforts in the Senate.

Again, please contact your Representative and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 3282 today. Defeating the ELD mandate is OOIDA's top priority and we will continue to fight it until the very end. Thank you for your time, effort.
