Good morning everyone. I just have a couple questions about how to handle paperwork when you lease your truck to someone else's authority.

Originally, I had my own authority and I paused it via OCE46. I was told by customer service with FMCSA to switch my DOT number status to intrAstate while not running.

Now I'm looking to take my truck and plates to another carrier. Would I need to switch my DOT status back to interstate or leave it as intrastate since I'm under another authority?
I know I have to provide my state carrier services Dept new insurance and a copy of the lease agreements to get a new cab card etc.

    Anything I'm forgetting?
Just trying to lease on with my own plates.

If you’re going to lease on with another carrier your DOT numbers won’t come into play at all.

You will need a COI from the carrier you’re leasing to so they can change your cab card to show that they’re responsible for safety. In Florida they didn’t even want to see my non-trucking/bobtail COI, just the carriers I was leasing to.

Just a fwiw, if you ever plan to run under your own authority again you’d be wise to keep and maintain your own ifta license as well as NM, KY, OR, CT and NY credentials. It’s a huge pia getting them restored after canceling.

    Thank you very much.
I will definitely hold onto my IFTA just for that reason!

Now there are two boxes: "Carrier responsible for safety US DOT Number" (which is the new carrier)
"Carrier responsible for safety tax ID number" ----> This should be the new carrier TID number right? Where can I find this?

    Oxbow and Concorde Thank this.

    Yes, their tax number also.

2290 proof that it was paid may be required from your state also. Florida it’s a big deal to have it.

    Oxbow and Fastbreakstar22 Thank this.

Should I cancel my DOT number as well then? Like I said, its active right now as Intrastate.

Some states will require a copy of your lease with the carrier as well.
