Let's Make Rules Up As We Go Along.....

I'm still employed, but I decided to "check around" other truck companies, their hiring requirements, equipment, pay, the whole nine yards. I've been with my current company for going on 13 months now, and I do believe that there is something better out here in the US, especially after talking to other drivers at truck stops and while waiting at many docks.

I called in to one particular company that is not listed on this website over a week ago that I will not list here. I think that I messed up and called into one of those "unlisted starter companies". The recruiter and I acknowledged that I have (1) moving violation on my record (busted for going >55 in CA) and (1) overaxle citation. (35500 on trailer axle). [I picked up a Nestle water load in the middle of nowhere in PA. There were NO scale facilities on the property, the nearby truckstops didn't have scales, and the closest scale was in Maryland PAST the weighstation. I was busted by state police.]

The recruiter said that I was not qualified for employment because the overweight citation on my record will now count as a moving violation due to the new rules. She sounded pretty apologetic (almost like she felt bad or something). So, overweight citations did not count as moving violations in the past, especially when no points go on your license whenever you did get busted. Now, overweight citations count as moving violations under CSA2010.

The future of the trucking industry seems funny. It seems like someone is trying to take alot of drivers off of the road, but what will happen when these employers suddenly need drivers...

Oh well. One company down. 397,000 to go....(I've recently submitted a couple of more apps to a couple of companies. Let's see what happens!)

Keep your record clean. If you do as much as break the wind nowadays that will probably count as a negative mark on your record under some law that will probably go into effect in the future. That someone made up, of course.

 

There are no new rules in CSA 2010.

 

I haven't read the law in it's entirety yet.

 

I understand that there are people that deserve to be taken off the road. Some supertruckers come to mind...people that THINK they are good because they have been so LUCKY.

I think those people is who this is aimed at, but at the same time this law is going to cost carriers a L.O.T. of money, and cost a lot of drivers their jobs. It seems like it needs to be revisited over and over until they come up with something that keeps the roads safe, but doesn't impair good drivers from continuing on with their careers.

 

This is an example of CSA2010 implementation. Notice the "driver fitness" in the diagram.

 

I guess that overweight citations fall under "cargo related". There are vehicles that haul "over dimension" freight (oversized and super heavy). I really don't see how being 1500 pounds over on an axle is considered "unsafe".

 

As I understand it....."Points" are assigned to citations now........


Overweight.......even axles....... now has a point assessment to it.


Smells strongly of chicken squeeze if you ask me......but it's what I've been able to understand about it.

 

They're NOT unsafe.......the point is that they bought a permit and you got caught and paid a fine.

Geez, we all pay either way, huh? Gosh flippin darn it!
