i purchased a truck out of state and will be driving it home to florida. does anyone know for sure if i need to log. i would assume not beings it will basically be for personal use., ie bobtail and no cargo. any body have experience w this? thanks
You will need to log it, you are not using it for personal use since you bought it for business. Personal conveyance can only be claimed if you are going for meals or lodging, etc, in addition to noit being under load or dispatch. Also, while using personal conveyance exemption you can not be re-positioning the truck for a load which you would be doing by bringing this truck home to get it ready to go on the road. You also will also need trip permits, put your DOT number on it, etc. I have brought home a few out of state trucks, did it this way every time, no trouble, it is not worth trying to argue with the officers at the weigh station.
actually i will officially lease on to a company after orientation on oct 6. i have purchased unladened liability insurance and have a temp permit. i cannot get my apportioned plates until i am officially leased on. i will log to be on safe side but as far as having dot number and such i wont have any.
