What is the longest you have stayed out?
I don't stay out as much now since being owner op. But I would say I stay out maybe a month or so. It varies,
but usually it is at least 2 weeks as I'm OTR and don't mind it as of now. Trying to save up $ then get a place for me and saving to get an overhaul inframe fund saved incase my truck takes a downturn so I won't be really pushed hard for having to get a loan or whatnot.
552k miles on this isx 2250 engine. Anybody have this engine? How is it doing you? It does take a bit of upkeep.

The longest I have stayed out is 3 months. The only reason I did that was because the money was way too good to go home

Having my 2013 isx overhauled as we speak ...still ran decent when it went in the shop with 684k on the clock but using lots of oil and the bell housing seals starting to pour oil too.
She's tired and didn't want to blow it up.

I wish this engine was more of a million mile engine. I'm shooting for a million.

Good luck lol....mine had 511k on it when I bought it and started using oil not long after , the 2012s and 13s had carbon packing issues that score the liners and it only gets worse .
Other than that it's had no issues ....good mpg .

When I first got my license I hired on with Werner. I did all the training and stayed out 9 months. Living in Maine sucked.

Now I’m an owner op and I’m home every weekend. Yay Texas.

4 weeks for training, and ever since no more than 2 weeks. I'm an owner/op now and home every 4th or 5th day.

I’m surprised your ISX hasn’t needed overhauled yet. Must be a good one. Has it had all the updates done like fuel tappets, crank case breather, etc?

I’ve had two take a ####. One was sudden due to the tappets, lost oil pressure and shut off. Out of frame overhaul. 35k but under warranty. 400k miles.

Other was carbon compaction, finally started clogging the dpf. Got another year out of by using the special Valvolive oil that Cummins had developed. It’s $100/gal. Finally caught up to it and engine had an inframe overhaul. $28k but had Encore Cummins warranty thankfully. ~375k miles.

If your the 2nd owner on that truck I’d highly recommend buying encore coverage from Cummins. It’ll save you 10’s of thousands.

Ps. After 650k or I believe 6 years since inservice they won’t sell you the warranty so inquire about it ASAP. This program has saved me more money then I can even describe.

I started at Werner back in 2002 too. It was since March - through June, 5 full months of OTR living including training and solo riding. I was happy as hell when they gave me the truck after their internal exam (gave me $500 bonus for that). I was single at the time, no real home to go back to.

Now I am tired of spending more than 2 consecutive nights in the sleeper. The third night I often go to a motel 6 or 8 or even something more expensive. Just too annoyed of the view of crowded truck stops and all that noise and view and smell...To me the initial truck driving glamour is long gone. But years ago, it was there for sure.
