Ok I will say this. It's a nice tablet, but the Kindle Fire HD 8 DOES NOT HAVE GPS. It even comes with it's own maps application, I guess just for ####s and giggles. It has locations services, but no GPS. This means that google maps, Truckerpath, etc will NOT work. The camera does not have enough resolution, so Transflo didn't even work. It does play youtube just fine so I gotz something to watch while I drive! LOL
Trucker Path is helpful. It's driver generated information, but is good enough to use as a guide. What it is is a truckstop app where you can locate truckstops in your area or route, and check to see if they have available parking or not. Like I said, it's driver generated information, so it's not always correct, but for the most part is good enough. There are also reviews, a list of nearby restaurants, and a history so that you can check out what times the truckstop "normally" fills up by. You can toggle between map and satellite view, so you can actually see the lay of the land and how the parking lot is set up.
Because I didn't know if anyone owned one. There is nothing special about an S7. It's just another android phone. And since I wound up buying a tablet to take the place of my phone and ended up with one that had no GPS, I thought I'd let others know before making their buying decision if they are in the market for a tablet.
Cheap tablets don't come with gps. From what I've seen so far. But haven't looked lately. Gps tablets start at around $300. Last time i was looking to possibly replace my older unit.
Don't get me wrong, it fits PERFECT in the space on the dash under the trailer brake handle and the AC controls and plays beautiful video, it's just not GPS equipped.
Co-pilot. You have to use some brains because it can get goofy with routing at destinations and stuff but won't ever put you where you ain't supposed to be. ItsI 150 bucks but will worth it to me. I use it on my phone and tablet, along with Google maps and almost 40 years experience. I also use a 10 yr old copy of Microsoft's streets and trips for general planning and as a check on routing. There is no one gps that does it all, you still have to think and use multiple resources. When all else fails, when I'm going someplace I've never been before I always check the atlas too.
