Here is my current situation. I have 10 years OTR experience, with a few months off here and there for various reasons. I live in Alabama. My wife rides with me we love life on the road. We just packed our rental home up and put everything in storage. We will stay with our daughter or my parents if the need arises. We decided to save the money we were paying on rent. I drive for one of the biggest companys out here. They are ok but not great by no means. I drove for a small company that was awesome, till the owner decided to retire and sold us to larger company which ruined the small company. I want to find a small company that lets me stay out long as I want then doesnt hassle me when I do want to take off. I enjoy the west coast more than the east. My wife and dog must be welcomed. I have a decent record. Nothing major just a speeding ticket and a couple of minor mechanical violations. I like running 3 months or longer with a week off. We dont have to be based anywhere in particular. We normally just decide to grab a hotel & go sight seeing wherever we land. We will one day find a place we like and settle. We are free to roam where ever till we retire. I want to retire in about 15 years. And i want a good company to do it at. Not a big company and please dont tell me what company i shouldnt go to. Tell me who I should talk to and why you think I should. Fyi, i drive a dry box right now but open to changing, i can get my hazmat if needed to. But nothing negative please i just want to hear about those awesome whole in tge wall companies that I know exist but people want to keep all to themselves because they know how to treat a driver. Be safe on your journeys down the road.

not to burst ur bubble but there's no perfect company out there, trust me, lol. I drive for a small company, 60+/- otr reefers & about the same in daycab trucks doing local construction work around the area. we're based out of iowa. we do have a few drivers who have dogs with them, so I don't think that would be an issue but don't know if there's a deposit or anything for ur dog. as for as ur wife with u all the time that is something I don't know about @ all; but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask. we run 53' reefers (utility's & great dane's), all air ride, no east coast unless u request to go, e logs (we do have a few guys who are still on paper logs but not much longer will they be), we go to Canada (I think there's a few certain guys who do those loads regularly but don't hold me to it), we have benefits, we have kenworth T660's & peterbilt 386's w/bunk heaters in them, 68 mph, fuel bonus & the best thing over all that I love here is NO FORCED DISPATCH. pm me if u want name, website, etc on us

If you want to retire in 15 years then you'll be needing some decent pay. I can only tell you my experience , but it is a good one. I worked for GSF ( Golden State Food's ) for over 30 years , retiring in 2011. They are a fast-food distribution company that delivers to the McDonald's chain of restaurants. They have I think 21 different locations nationwide. Only thing is this is not an OTR job. You run anywhere from 3 to maybe 5 days a week home most nights as long as you have the hours to return with. (If not they have regular scheduled motel rooms already set up and paid for). You finish your run , go to the motel , get the key , take your break , and head home. Also this is a labor intensive , hand-on the freight job , not impossible , but hands-on. I'm 64 now and when I retired I was in great shape for a guy of 62. The pay/benefits/home-time/schedules/equipment/retirement is great. Don't know if something like this would interest you ,but you asked about jobs that you can retire from...Also you run solo...the wife could not ride along....Good Luck in your search..PM if you want more info...T

Holland Enterprises has pet and rider policy from day one.
You might have to relocate or get an address in another state besides Alabama.
Get an address in a state that has no personal income tax such as Texas or Nevada. That shouldn't be any problem for you in your situation.
    Trucks have APU's.
    325 trucks in their fleet.
    Average run is 1450 miles.
    48 state carrier.
    Average pay $60K per year.
401K - you could make that work for you and retire in 15 years if you're disciplined.

I've been with Big G Express out of Shelbyville TN for about a year now. I love it here. We run mostly east of the Mississippi, with the occasional TX run, no NYC. We have about 300 trucks, KW, Volvo, Freightliners, and Mac, all <3 yrs old. Dry van trailers. They do allow riders and pets. Most drivers get home every weekend, but if you want to run weekends, they are more than willing to accommodate you. It is an employee owned company, which means you start accruing company stock from day 1, at no cost. The number of shares is based on miles driven and you are fully vested after just 3 yrs. They also have a 401k, which they match 10%. Dispatch and load planners are awesome, they keep me running hard with virtually no down time between loads. It's a great company to work for and they really do care about their drivers and it shows in a lot of little ways. If you want more info, feel free to PM me.
