I apologize if this is in the wrong area. I am potentially looking for a new job based in one of the following areas: Jacksonville, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia (Hampton Roads); San Diego, California or within a couple hours from any of these areas. I currently live near Anderson, Indiana (just NE of Indianapolis) and work at Carter Express. I have nearly a year and a half experience and at one company. I have my Indiana CDL with the following endorsements: HazMat, Tanker, Passenger, Bus (may be the same as passenger, I can't remember), Doubles/Triples. I have zero infractions from DOT and have a perfect record internally with my company regarding safety, attendance, etc. I drove solo (averaged 3,000+ miles per week), I drove team (averaged 6,000 - 7,000 miles per week) and I was also a trainer for probably 9 months. I drove mostly dry van and some reefer. A lot of drop and hook but some live load/unload and plenty of milk runs. Benefits and pay: When I run solo I make .365cpm and when I team drive I make .23cpm. I have 401K (basically they pay up to 3% of my income) and health benefits are not the best. I get 1 week of vacation a year and 2 paid holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas). One thing that I love with Carter is the luxury they give us. I don't know if all drivers get this, or if I am just favored, but if I want to take time off and even if I don't have vacation time, I can take it off with no problem. Obviously it won't be paid, but I'm not questioned or given a hard time about it. It's not forced dispatch and unlike some companies that tell you were you go, if we are running the board our DM will call us and say this is what all is available and I can select my runs. I currently run dedicated which there is a lot of. I've given a lot of information. Carter Express is not the highest paid, but the luxury I have offsets some of the cost in my mind. I'd like to find higher paid in one of those cities with the luxury I currently have. May not be an option, but that is why I'm here is to research and ask. I've currently been looking at Watkins Refigerated based out of Lakeland, Florida (about 3 hours from Jacksonville) and they will even run to Indy so I get to still see family. I'm willing to run. I don't care about home time. I'm single with no kids but would like a weekend off every month so I can fly my niece and nephew to me. I currently prefer OTR (generally pays more), newer trucks (obviously) and I will only drive an automatic. I know many people may bash me about that, but the auto's have truly spoiled me. I'm sure there is probably more information I should give to help you guys help me, so feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for all of your help. This forum is the best and you guys have always been great for me!
Holland Enterprises is a good one but don't know what transmissions they use. Trucks have satellite tv, xm radio, refrigerator/freezer, Tripac Apu's. Jim Palmer Trucking - trucks are decked out nice like that, but don't know what transmissions the new 2016 models have. Phone call can find out. Pay is .45 cpm. I think Decker Truck Line is getting all auto's now. Abilene Motor Express has automatics. Lessors Inc. good reputation and trucks set up right for long haul;; also have Tripac Apu. It's hard to keep up concerning transmissions because so many companies are switching to them.
Im researching all of these now. Thanks! Youve given me a ton of homework. Im having trouble locating the Holland Enterprises that youre talking about though. Do you happen to have a website?
