    So I check the conway website frequently and they have which must be a new program, the Accelerated LTL Driver Program which is 4 instead of 12 weeks. LTL is all about seniority as some of you might now and will all depend on the region/terminal you work out of. You might work one or two days or you might be super busy. But If i dont work, Id rather be at home than in some box far away from home.

    I've been doing the LTL bit for 3 months and I would never want even the best OTR trucking company to piss on me to save my life. I would only do OTR as an owner op. Never done OTR and I wouldnt want to either

    So some of you guys can check it out and see if it works for you. Im still pretty new at the LTL bit, but its great. I have weeks I gross 1300, and some weeks i gross 800, but I save alot so I can ride out the slower weeks that go along with LTL jobs.

    The requirements from the website are:
    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    * Truck driving school graduate with valid Class A CDL
    *
    Less than 12 months of entry level training as required by 49 CFR 380.505.
    * Proof of Hazardous Materials endorsement or proof of application required.
    * Doubles/Triples endorsement required.
    * Must be 21 years age or older.
    * Safe driving record and history.
    * Pass DOT drug test and have no prior positive tests or refusals.
    * Pass company paid DOT physical.
    * Must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation(s).
    * Pass a company paid Post Offer Pre-Hire Screen (physical essential functions) test.
    * Forklift experience preferred.

    I'm not a recuiter or anything, just tired of reading the absolutely horrendous stories and everyday, still more people want to do it.

    Im also LTL, and I never see anybody on here recommend LTL. They always say the only way to get started in trucking is with a mega OTR carrier. Not true at all! Ive been in LTL for about 13 years and have seen many many drivers start their driving career LTL. I am one of them. It might require some dock work at the beginning, but who cares? The money is often better than OTR, and you get to go home every night.

    LTL is not some great fantasy job like alot of these guys make it out to be. If you like physical labor 12-14 hours a day, getting a truck and trailer in places it shouldnt be and slip seating everyday then its for you. If not, Id find another gig

    Not calling you a liar, and I do believe you. But I think it's easier to get a license thru school. I mean in 4 to 8 weeks you can get a license, and be in a truck.

    With an LTL company, you have to wait for an opening, apply for a job, hopefully get hired, start on the dock, and work 10 hours one week, maybe 40 the next. And Dock work ain't easy. I've done it too. Then with companies help you can get your CDL.

    Neither way is wrong. It's about the time frame you are wanting to get into a truck.

    I say for young guy, going the LTL way is best. It's cheaper, little longer, but hopefully in a year or two, you got your CDL, and a good job, and didn't have to pay $5000 for a CDL.

    But if your in 40s or so, just lost your job, have a family and mortgage. Then going thru a school may make more sense. With in 2 months, you could be in a job that pays $40 to $50 grand a year.

    With that said, I drive for ABF linehaul. We do have a school. I do recommend it.

    Just my two cents.

    Conservative to the Bone.
