"Targeted users could start seeing their files locked on Monday."

"the attack was more or less faked"

"more and more proof of concept"

"good news is that Apple may have developed a fix"

    Not much of a story...

Just another proof of concept issue and Apple has already fixed it by blocking the installation of the infected program and it still requires the "user" to "install" the infected program to begin with...

Not much of a virus if the user is the one installing the actual program in question.

"has been a big problem for Windows users for years"

There is the real, and ongoing, story... LOL

As for Mac Users, ya, still safer... :)

"In an email to CNBC, an Apple spokesperson said the company has updated XProtect and pulled Transmission BitTorrent's developer certificate, so that no one can install the infected app."

so it wasn't really a virus if it came with a program that you chose to install... And dang, Apple killed that off quick too.

    :D

And help me out, BitTorrent, what is that used for again? Is that some kind of software that helps you down load unauthorized video content?

Serious question... I am not real familiar with it.

    Thanks.

It's a program that enables you to download a large file(s) directly off other peoples computers by cutting up the file into many small pieces and receiving fragments of it from, say 100+ users, at the same time to increase download speeds. Haven't used it in 10 years.

Even programs that are chosen to install are viruses. I lost count how many times ive tried to install something only to have my avg go off. Or even my phone software which does not install on my computer. But on the phone instead. Theres no good links for my note2 anymore.

The internet of the 90s was a good thing. We, the innocent, didnt have to worry to much.. back then. Its a shame we have to be worrried about the crap today. Pisses me off.
