Manual transmission foils truck thief in low speed chase low speed chase Published June 15, 2017 Associated Press Randy Dewayne Vert (Jefferson County Jail) Alabama authorities say a thief who couldn't figure out how to shift out of first gear led a slow-speed chase in a flatbed truck. Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian tells AL.com the 16-mile chase never topped 30 mph. It ended when the transmission seized, stopping the truck. Say what? 30mph in first gear? Maybe 30mph in 6th gear in a 13 speed. And I bet it was the engine that seized, not the trans. Love the wisecrack at the end of the article though.
Most likely he was in a 10 speed, and could not figure out how to use the range selector to get it to 6th.
That was my first thought, but since I most often drive a 13 speed, I went with that seeing as how they are cruising at 30 in 6th. BTW, I loath 10spds, I usually drive them like an 8spd to make it worth a turd
Article says 'couldnt figure out how to get out of first'... then 'never topped 30mph before the transmission seized'. I'm w. @ZVar - guy didn't understand the range selector. Rode it at 7k RMP's until she burnt. So many things wrong with this article. Bail $5900..... lol.
