Sounds like they're taking more cues from Apple.

I had a "Black Screen" on my WVista Ultimate two days ago. Start-up normal, "log on" and then nothing.........black screen.
Since I built my own, I am my own tech support and I haven't had time to "run it down". I just popped in a new HD (I had pre-bought) and re-installed everything. I am now using the original as a back-up.
It happened after the Service Pack 2 was installed.

This is why when I have the money in a couple months I am switching to to Mac. I have at least a half dozen friends and family members who have switched and have had no problems. And the consensus is that the Mac is the easiest computer to use. I talked to the kid at the Apple store and they have classes for computer illiterates like me for everything you would want to learn. My laptop is an ACER and is one year old and has been in the "shop" 4 times in that year for problems. One girl I know has had a Macbook for 2 years and it still runs like it did on day one.

    No more PC for me...

"HP" doesn't build anything like what I needed to process HiDef video, and any other manufacturer would have charged me well in excess of $5G.

I have an acer also and the first year it was in the shop 3 times. each time new hd was put in. in the second year even without an extended warranty the replaced the hd one time, then when i sent it to them again they said they fixed it and shipped it back. they didnt do a thing to it. then the company i bought it from called them up and said "if you dont fix this computer i will no longer sell ur product." so they put in a new motherboard and hd. and it is at the shop again.

My dad thinks im crazy when i say my computer is having problems. he says "i buy computers from there all the time and never have had any problems."

Prevx has a work around for this issue, if anyone is interested.>> Prevx offers a free fix for Windows Black Screen

As far as brand of computer people are having problems with, I don't think it matters. I have worked on every brand out there and they all have their little problems. You might have gotten a Friday or a Monday computer. Motherboard failures are the hardest problem to figure out. If I run tests and keep getting multiple or a different failure each time. Nine times outta ten, it will be the motherboard or technically called a planar. :biggrin_2558:

FYI, the next update for microsoft update is Dec 8, so be prepared if your system doesn't work again. :biggrin_25524:
