So I have been talking to friends and family about me going to CDL school on Monday. Sorry I am excited So I get a call last night from a family friend. He knows a have a couple mis/felonies on my record and was asking if I think I would have a problem getting a job. I said I am not really worried about it because of how old they are. So he started to explain his story to me. I know he has some felonies/mis on his record also. I told him I have no idea but know some people I could ask. "you guys" So I ask him what they are and how old. Here is what he told me. Back in 1997 and 1998 he was going through a divorce, he was in charge of paying all the household expense. So he would write the checks out and mail them. Well tech his name wasn't on the account. So his ex and her lawyer decided to get him into big trouble and make him look bad when the div trial came around. So his soon to be ex called the law and he was arrested and charged with forgery and theft for "stealing" the checks!!! Here is the following info he gave me. 1998 felony forgery These are from 1997 4 felony forgery 1 felony bail jumping "he missed a court date on accident" 3 counts of mis theft He never did any jail time and was put on 10 years probation!!!! He has had a really bad time getting jobs and when he did get a job he would be working there and for some reason they didnt run his back ground before he was hired. They would run his background after he was working there 2-3 months later and find this out and fire him. He has had like 3 jobs in the past year alone. He does have a clean driving record at least. LOL I did tell him that being that old it really shouldnt matter??? as long as he was up front and honest. Any helpful info would be great
He's not getting hired, A thief, now he maybe a smarter older thief, but no one is going to trust him with a tractor trailer worth upwards of 150,000 and a load that could be worth a million or so. Not my view, it is the way our industry is. You have to trust your drivers. You can never trust a thief.
He can get hired if he has had nothing since that time and the big if he has had a great job history, but from the sound of what you said his job history is not good and he will have a really hard time getting hired on somewhere
Most companies that do take a history like that go by when their probation ended then has to be clean 10 years after the end of probation.
Best he can do is call the companies that he is looking into and explain to them the situation. We can tell you one thing, but we are not the company doing the hiring. I would suggest calling the big carriers likee Swift and Werner.
It may be difficult for your friend to get his TWIC... TSA processes the background check and I think it gets passed on the the FBI.
