Some of you may recall that I've basically been waiting to get into trucking for the last year due to a Careless Operation ticket that I received back in December. Well I challenged the ticket and the ticket was dropped from my record and the accident changed to non-preventable last week. Was the first time I had ever challenged a ticket before, and was really awesome winning against the city!

Anyway, I have begun the process of applying to the usual suspects of starting companies and am really wanting to get started with training in the next month or two. I just wanted to make a thread for questions that I might find myself wondering about without hijacking a different thread that someone might had made for their questions.

The main thing that I have been looking for is the type of freight. I find myself wanting to get into flatbedding eventually - just the work involved appeals to me more than vans or tanks. Are there any flatbedding companies out there that will take students or possibly train for cdl? I know that I have to pull a year or two of service to the big guys first to get any of the great jobs in trucking, but I don't mind - anything is better than what I have now (No financial aid or desire to continue college with a minimum wage job).

*edit* I also have 100% NO desire to lease a truck, so I'm trying to stay away from the companies that have the reputation of pushing leases down students throat (that means you, CR E).

Roehl has a flatbed and a curtain side devision and they also have their own school.

Maverick hires new drivers (at least 23yrs old)

TMC hires new drivers as well (at least 23yrs old)

Looks like I am out of the hiring zone for ALL of the above :(
I figured some flatbedding companies would want a guy that lives about 45 miles from New Orleans...

    Oh well.

I used to haul a lot of coils out of N/O port going to murfreesboro TN. Then it dried up. I would have to bounce to MS to get a load.

Thanks! I'm going to give them a call in a few hours! Worst thing they can tell me is that I have to find a school first...

I know Werner has a flatbed devision. I have been thinking about trying it out since I could all ways just drop the skateboard off and go back to van if it turns out to be more work then I can handle.
