Here's the situation: just got back my CDL with all endorsements and even grabbed a twic also....but haven't been driving since 09...... MVR is spotless for last 5 years........Would like to drive tankers, since I have to do a "refresher" (am I right?) is my only option Schneider? Never done OTR either.... But I know that HAS to be done now (right?).....

my thought process now is if I have to go to a "starter" company it might as well be driving tanks (if possible or am I dreaming?)

my question is do I HAVE to pull a dry van or reffer OTR for a year at a starter company to get the required exp back before I can go pull a tank?

thanks for the help...... This wasn't the plan, I thought I'd go back to my old job for 6 months (large moving company) and then start applying for tank jobs... But insurance won't cover me....so here I am with a nice new CDL (came in mail yesterday) and no recent driving exp.

I am from NC and don't have much knowledge of the Ca market. I am sure there are some fuel hauling outfits, food grade and chemical outfits there. Here is a listing of tank washes in that area. If you visit one close to you you will see what companies are busy in your area.

My company Superior Carriers has a food grade terminal (Carry Transit) in Stockton.

Schneider Bulk is the only tanker company I'm aware of that has refresher, but not sure if they recruit for tanker in California. Western Express has a refresher; maybe work there 6 + months and start applying for tankers. You can apply for Schneider refresher with any division that will take you also. After 6 months probably can get on with Superior Carriers or one of their divisions as wsyrob posted.

So what do you mean you just got your cdl back? Was it forcibly taken away? That magical 5 year mark makes you go hmmmm.

I honestly Don't know what you mean by "magical 5 year mark" ......... If you have some useful information (besides the sarcastic "hmmmm") in regards to my question -then i'd be more than happy to explain (although if you read some of my post in other threads its clear as day why I "got it back")

I didn't feel like being a detective today. I just thought I would be a straight shooter.
