My uncle has been driving truck for 32 years and told me once he gets situated with his new company he will get me hired on... I've been driving for only 2 years and wanted the advice of other drivers. He works in an oil field making 150 an hour under contract in which he is purchasing a truck and tanker... I've been thinking about it but don't want to move to texas as he told me he is getting an appartment there. Everything he told me sounds legit and under his guidence I could possibly enter into a purchase contract IF they are keeping me busy. I save alot of my money now with my current job, I have tanker and hazmat endorement but no real experience with tankers I understand the truck will requires repairs and to save for them, anyways here are my questions. 1 Is it unrealistic to stay in my truck for a year or two working for an oil field... example, take showers at a truck stop, etc etc... 2 Is it unrealistic to request home time of 1 week after being out for 2 months ? 3 As the price of oil and demand increase or drop OR as obama makes stuff harder for oil drilling is there a big chance at being laid off or terminated in a lease purchase / contract purchase program? Lastly I know all trucking companies have their good points and bad points ( some companies just suck ) however with these oil companies whats different being an employee or working for them employee wise thats different from your run of the mill trucking company? Thank you in advance for any advice. I'm trying to get a realistic picture of a possible change so I can make sure my expectations are in line with reality.. THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!
Personally, I had not seen this before today. And I would say DON'T. I looked at oilfield work last March. Decided against doing ANYTHING there. From what I am hearing. Glad I went that route too.
