Hello Everyone! BTW great place here!! hehe wish I would have found this a month ago Anyways here's a question. I know this may have been answered in another section but my time is veeery limited on searching since I only have a week left before school so here it gooes! I have applied at a few schools and did my homework and found some great schools and NOT so great schools hehehe. I am really lost of where to go when you have been pretty much turned down for Gov loans and really don't have the funds to pay for school upfront. So let's just say my last resort is CRST which I was approved ok ok don't go off I have heard the worst already about this place LOL. But see I have applied at Premier and was turned down by PAM cause I did not qualify for the Gov loans. And applied at Celadon but was told they don't take student south of Ocala FL and here I'm below Ocala in Tampa. Soo not really looking into Roadmaster since they are more pay upfront and the class is too short! I am not thinking I can possibly get the training I need in a few short weeks sorry my personal option. I use to drive a school bus for 10 years and have a CDL class B but wanting to get my training for Class A. I am really lost on my options of who will accept a new student without costing a arm and leg and be able to supply me with the training longer then a few weeks. I am aware of the traveling and being gone for long period of time and I understand what is involved with driving and believe me I am ready!! but all I need is a good school to learn from. And just today applied at Roehl and Millis Transfer (still waiting to hear) since I heard nice things about them on this site as well ....and thank you for the info! Just got call from Roehl they are all filled up with students from FL so that's not good, I guess they can only accept so many students from each area Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Try Prime, JB Hunt, Schneider. I started with Schneider in 1997, they treated me well. If you tell Schneider you are willing to do Tanker it would help, they are looking for Tanker drivers. I started and trained on tankers. After six months I left Schneider and went cargo van. Got free training with pay. Now I think most who train you expect you to work for them for a year. Do what ever you have to do to get the license. Even if you have to start with CRST. Once you get 1 one or two years experience then you can pick and choose who you work for. Good luck...
Well, thank you so much Micheal I really appreciate that yes I may just give CRST a shot, yes I have no problem signing up with anyone for a year as long as it gets my foot in the door, I am willing to work my way up. I will give Prime a shot as well. It's most certainly not the negative I am worried about it's getting the proper training is what concerns me most to be honest. I will give the other two a try as well and thank you so much as well
In the past 2 years, I have crossed paths with 2 drivers who had CDL-B bus licenses and experience like you. Both got their training and license at Prime and are driving on their own now. One was from Chicago, the other from Virginia. Try hard and stay positive. Good Luck.......
