I can only imagine my insurance brokers face if I told her I was bringing on an o/o with a 3 month driving history. That said, I’m pretty sure one of those Crash-o-Matic Express operations would have a Driver Trainer with 5 or 6 months of experience to bring him up to speed. I can’t ####ing believe what this industry has come to.

One day I was approached by a warehouse worker where I delivered to.
He planned to get his license, buy a truck and sign on with a company. He asked me what to look out for by choosing a carrier.
I straightened out his planned pattern. Get the license, find a carrier to work for and then get a truck.

He seemed to understand what I said.

Don't even consider owning a truck until you have worked as a company driver for a couple of years. 80-90% of new CDL drivers quit before they work for 1 full year. Let someone else pay the truck expenses while you decide if you like the job and let you learn enough to MAYBE make a profit. You are going to need tens of thousands of dollars and some credit as an O-O. Steady work and paying your bills is the best way to get credit.
