Hi ... I am starting cdl/driving school in Jan when my job ends and wondered about the vision test and physical. If I go get my CDL Permit before the class starts do I have to have the physical first?

When I took my vision test when I moved to GA 4 years ago, I felt like I could hardly ready the lines in the vision box thing .. but I passed w/o a problem. I seem to see fine except for reading glasses for small print. Do they re-test the vision or just accept your current valid dl? I'd hate to show up for class and fail the vision test because of a stricter interpretation, and not get to proceed. Money's real tight right now so a trip to the eye doctor would be tough .. but ...

Also, I have high blood pressure .. very mild but I do take meds daily. How will that affect the physical?

And what's with the picture you have to submit with your application .. they don't take the picture like with a regular license?

I could not find the answers on the dmv website. I'm going to try to run by there tomorrow and get a manual .. studying it online is a pain .. and see what I can find out.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will have to take your physical at some point. Either before you take the test or before you go to work. If it's all going to be on your dime, i would make sure i could pass the physical before i spent the money on CDL training.

They will retest your vision so be prepared
As long as it's below 130/80 you should be OK, need to stay on top of it though.
They will take your picture again when you have completed your training. Why they make you send in the pic with the application, I don't know.
Below is a link where you can take some practice tests after you've studied some. Also you will want to check your driving record before you spend this money. If you have several tickets nobody's going to want to hire you, CDL schools don't tell you that.
