New Driver looking for work, what to look for?

hi Guys, new to the industry and to this forum. Just got my Class 1 (in BC via a driving school), looking for work. I see lots of posting for drivers. Any suggestions, recommendations of what to look for in terms of deciding on a company? I like to do the long haul driving and make some good money. Thanks in advance.

 

Don’t believe a single employer you talk to. Do your own research. Unfortunately, until you get a couple years of safe driving in, you will have to take some lumps and work your ### off. But be safe. And don’t get taken advantage of pay wise. Lots of shady companies out there.

 

I don’t see Robins transport. May have been bought. They used to hire greenhorns to run A trains to Edmonton out of Vancouver

Work for people who speak english. Easily understandable english. English as their first/native language. If you catch my drift.

 

Thanks guys. English is not a problem, university grad here. Don't mind putting in my time and doing some local deliveries, after all everyone need to start somewhere to gain experiences but my goal is to do long haul.

Besides talking to other drivers, any info (signs to look for) re: assurances of wage at the end of the day (bi-monthly/monthly). Heard lots of horror stories of drivers not getting paid. Suggestions of good companies to approach as a newbie?

 

No he means work for a company with owners that speak English as a first language lol.

 

Oh ok, but will the owner always be around. What if I am dealing with a manager/supervisor that speak English well, but the owner does not?

I would spend some time in your local truck stop. Look at the trucks and trailers. Newer? In good shape? Make note of the name, buy the driver a cup of coffee and ask him questions. Then go home and search the companies your interested in online.
