New hire doing local delivery, nervous with questions!

Hi everyone, I've been reading here a lot and learning a ton before I step into the industry. This place is like a driver's bible!

Couple things, I'm in the process of getting my Class 1 in Alberta and haven't done the necessary medical yet. Does it include a drug screen? I will be honest, I live in Canada... things get passed around and I've been diligent about abstaining when I'm out in social settings, but how high is the threshold? I know it can stay in the body for 6 months but how long should I NOT have smoked for if I want to pass the pis
Second thing... I'm nervous! I got hired with a local food delivery service and it sounds like quite a demanding job. I dislocated my shoulder last year while biking and I've been lifting a lot of weights in anticipation for the new job but of course I might be overdoing it and it's getting sore. Just how tough is the job? Will be in single axle van trucks to start, Class 1 trucks will come later with experience.

The most I've ever moved was 15,000-21,000lbs in a day pressing 30-35lb steel sheets in a steel shop when I was 19. It was grueling work and I could only do that for 2 weeks before I felt like I could barely move anymore. It was repetitive twisting motion, anymore likely would have caused an injury from repetition. Is it going to be this tough?

Better hope they don't ask for a hair sample like they did me,it goes back several months not just 30 days like a UA.

 

Canada is alot different than the US.

2-3 week if your an infrequenct user and you will pass ( or piss! ) with flying colours. I do LTL up in Edmonton and I love my job - always in and out of the truck keeps me in shape!

 

Sorry guys but don't you think someone who needs to or even wants to smoke and drive should pick one or the other not both. The roads are dangerous enough without being under the influence and behind the wheel. so if your worried about the drug test you shouldn't be driving!

 

Thanks for all the replies guys I appreciate the input. I think I will do fine. Talked to HR again and they reassured me on the position. As for testing, there is none. I love Canada. But I will continue to abstain because in the event that I should manage to cause an accident I will be tested and if above threshold I can kiss it all goodbye.

Learn what you're talking about before posting. Nowhere did I indicate a "need" to smoke and there is a difference between 'traces of' in your system and being 'under the influence' if it wasn't painfully obvious in the first place...

If I should not be allowed to smoke, your beer should also not be legal. welcome to Canada.

 

Your free to do whatever you want. I agree with the post about not smoking dope at all if driving for a living. If you are involved in an accident and test positive to illegal substance you will be going to jail !

If this is your attitude to the law then find another career because you wont last very long trucking if you disobey the rules and regulations. This industry allready has enough unprofessional drivers, dont add to that number.
