Hello to all that read this. I'm 25 going to be starting the Swift driving academy in Memphis in mid March. I am new to the trucking business. I have heard good things and bad things about Swift. I was just looking to clarify somethings....Would be great if someone could shoot me a message....I will be going back to the Ocala terminal after Memphis.... Was wondering how they are with getting you back home for your time off the road... How they were with paying you for miles and just some things a new driver should know.... How's training, what supplies will I need to purchase when I am given a truck... What kind of trucks do the new hires get. and anything else that I need to know good or bad haha before I arrive in Memphis...
Home time is not guaranteed. My experience has been that they are usually within a day or two, but sometimes it's been more. I asked to get to Ocala on January 18th and they actually got me there on the 29th. That's an extreme, of course, but I've heard from our Florida drivers that it can be hard to get home sometimes. Florida just seems to be a hard place to get to. Swift pays Rand Mcnally miles, which is basically as-the-crow-flies. You will drive more miles than you are paid for. Count on it. I know nothing about their training. Basic supplies, check this out http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-drivers/16652-packing-list-for-students.html You will get whatever truck is available. It will be used, that's the only thing I can tell you.
