New smartphone app-TruckerPath

Actually I dont know if its new but its new to me. Its an interactive app that basically shows your current position on a google map along with places of interest like truck stops, rest areas and weigh stations.

Heres the good part. If you have the app open and you get within a mile of a scale it will ask you whether its open or closed and it will be reflected on the map.. You can check out any scale you want, and the more people who use the app the more accurate the info will be.

Its free and I have no connection to it. It just has the potential to be a valuable tool.

I use it a lot very helpful and pretty accurate

 

I have that app on my tablet and I use it nearly every day. Careful though, as it will use your data. I wish it could be downloaded for offline use like MyDat. Another nice feature would be a button that centers your position on the map. The little blue dot for current position is sometimes hard to find.

 

I was going to install this app a good while back, but held off because the "Permissions" (Identity category) allows it to find ANY accounts on the device (phone).
Now I'm not paranoid, but I'm also not a gullible idiot either.
I'd like the app maker (or someone) please tell me WHY does it need me to allow them to find all my "accounts" on my phone... just to install or run it?

 

I bypass all scale houses.

 

Because if the app is free, you're not the customer, you're the product.
Your data is sold to advertisers.

 

I can easily imagine that,, or worse "recipients" of your privacy/identity.
That's exactly why I won't install that app, nor 100's more that, no matter how "useful" the app is.
Seems today, ppl sell their "personal info souls" to the devil so blindly/easily... no, not sell... GIVE their own personal info away (which they have NO way of knowing where/how it later will be used) to the devil, especially knowing their personal info has absolutely nothing to do with the need for their "useful" app to operate.

I'd gladly pay them a few bucks for the app, but keep my personal info... personal.
But free with loss of my own privacy = no install for me.

 

I use mine on a tablet so there's no phone, contacts or any other info of real value.
