Hey guys, I am not a trucker and don't actually have my CB gear yet, but I already plan on getting a Cobra 25. Those seem to be one of the nicer ones in my price range... anyway... the guy at the CB shop here in town suggested using a magnet mount antenna for my pickup truck. I know that the higher the antenna is, then the better overall it will be, but are there any other suggestions as far as where to put the antenna to possibly make it a little more discreet? or is that just pretty much impossible since it needs to be up high? My main thing is the magnet mount part at the bottom... it looked kind of clunky in the package but i haven't actually put it on my truck yet to see what it looked like.
Those Little Will mag mounts are pretty decent budget antenna's Get the shop to drop your SWR's to "BELOW" 1.5 and you'll do real good. You'll do even better if you snag a Telex RK-56 NCM.
you want discreet then go with a window mount antenna. if you want performance at all decently then a lil wilson works just fine. my setup ( cobra 19 III and lil wilson tuned to 1:5:1)
Discreet, forget it. Maybe a coat hanger on the back of the radio? Just kidding. Personally, I'd get the new Wilson 5000 mag mount. It's short and has 2 loads on it. One load is in the base, and another small load is in the center of the whip. You can run 100mph and the magnet will keep it in place, unlike alot of the other makes of mags.
