I am new to the industry I just graduated CDL A training in my area I now have a unused CDL i live in Western Pa and the gas industry is ramping up big time I have takin road tests for some of these companies hiring strait out of school and they say that they train only to find out if you scratch a gear they dont want anything to do with you realizing most of this equipment is spanking new so in other words its a waste of time for a new driver so i am now on my way to crst in cedar rapids by plane on Sunday for refresher im not planning on staying with the company after i am comfortable in the drivers seat so my questions are is this a good idea? what should i expect from this company ? i have read good and bad and i am very confused about my decision now I realize i gota do what i gota do im not complaining i just do not want to waste time money and a good CDL I have fortunately saved up some money from my previous career i just dont want to give it away to a scam thank you for reading feedback would be great thanks!
Not sure what you mean "if you scratch a gear, they don't want you". I've never known that singular event to be a deal breaker for getting in anywhere. My understanding of CRST is that it is primarily a team operation, meaning you will most likely spend most time at CRST teamed up with another driver who you may or may not be able to tolerate, for months at a time. Some people are more suited to team operation than others, I for one, am not.
Hell I don't know how husband and wife teams to do it. Everything all crammed up, ones sleeping ones driving vice versa. Nope. Not for me. As for the OP, scratching a gear? Man every driver grinds I don't care if you have 50 years of experience you will still grind a gear or two sometimes. No one is perfect, specially if your in 10th, slowing down trying to catch 8th (skip shifting) and you don't realize your rpms aren't high enough when you go to shift for the first time. Now by the second time you should of realized the mistake and correct but nothing is perfect. Happens. Don't beat yourself up over that at all
