Plz help. Im in jacksonville, fl. Recently obtained class b license to drive dump trucks. Borrowed dump truck from bossman, took test at roadmaster and got the job. Now i Did all this training and spending $300 for testing at roadmaster, boss goes to add me to his insurance and they deny me saying i had to have had my license for atleast 2yrs to b placed on the insurance. Now i've been job hunting and all i here is verifiable exp. Which i dont have because i only trained with the company and never was drug tested for d.o.t. or something like that i was told. Now i dont know what to do with this license But hold it for now and thats no $ for me or exp CDL wise. I need help on what to do next? Which direction to go now? How to get exp? Or does anyone know a 1-2 dump truck company looking for a Day or night time driver who doesnt have that major dump truck insurance? Plz help!!!!!!

The ability to get insurance or the cost of insurance plays a big part in the hiring policies in any type of trucking operation.

Here's an example to help you understand this. Let's look at an owner/operator with authority operating as a carrier. With experience and a good MVR, he will probably pay less than $6,000 a year for insurance. If he adds a new CDL driver his insurance will most likely cost more than $9,000 a year. In addition, he will probably have his operating radius reduced to 500 - 700 air miles for a year.

I don't know how old you are or what your long-term plans are. You will probably have to take approved training or just keep looking until you find a company whose insurance and policies will allow you to be hired.

Construction is starting to pick back up here in FL. Try all the construction supply companies. You could drive a box, or flat bed straight. Dump trucks in FL tend to have higher insurance rates then box and flat bed. Last company I worked for had to start all new drivers in the box trucks for 1 year before they were allowed to drive any of the dumps.

If your under 23 you may have a hard time finding any driving job here in FL, Didn't see if you posted your age or not.
