I have an opportunity to hire on with Wilbur Ellis - Agribusiness Division in my local town to haul dry fertilizer, liquid fert in small poly nurse tanks, and seed etc,. I have an excellent "in" to get the position but I have no idea what the job may entail. They will train me but I would like to get some sort of idea what my duties may be, types of equipment used, etc,... so I can at least hold a some what intelligent conversation with the hiring manager. Hell, I don't even know what type of trailer I would pull? Hopper bottoms maybe? All I know is it's seasonal (March-November) with a tremendous amount of hours. Just looking for any insight from someone who has either worked for Wilbur Ellis hauling fertilizer or from anyone who has hauled dry fertilizer.
Well, don't know if this helps, but up here in grain country, granular fertilizer is hauled in the same trailers as grain. Hopper bottom super b's. Granular product, quite heavy, don't need even half a trailer full to get your weight. Usually fairly slow to unload (compared to grain anyway). And if hauling nitrate, that gets into dangerous goods, a world all of it's own. Good luck.
sounds like a tender truck job to me ,,, a straight truck that loads fertilizer spreaders long hours yes but still falls under dot rules..
