You shouldn't have a problem. I take it you are talking about your regular license right? I have never heard of any term requirements for a regular license for getting hired. They look at how many years you have your CDL though and whether you drove over the road or locally. Some over the road companies won't count local driving experience as "experience". So once you get your CDL from your school you will be starting out fresh, day 1.

    Hope this helps.

Well that is most likely their own insurance requirements. I would definitely keep looking into other companies. If you do have problems with the mega-carriers then maybe try some of the smaller trucking companies. Chances are they will be better to work for anyway. You could also call some of the schools and see what they think about your license and if they have any suggestions.

All Ive ever heard is that you must have a regular license for 1 year before you are eligible for a CDL.

I have no idea if thats true or not but I remember hearing it. Ive never heard of a company requiring a certain amount of time with a regular drivers license.

Being in Tx you have a lot more options than others. Central is a pretty good choice to though. Plus they have a small terminal/drop yard in Irvine. Not sure if they do schooling there but you would probably be better off going to Utah. The good thing about going for a company like Central is that you can do your schooling there with as little as $100-200 upfront and a no interest loan. Plus once you are done with school you already have a job.

Nycmex I drove for Central and highly recommend them however you need to find a company that is going to best suit your needs.
