i really dont know how paccar gets their horsepower ratings. im not saying the MX13 in my T880 is a bad engine, but i do not believe the apparent horsepower rating of 500 hp. it seems to me like i have driven some C13 and C15 ACERT powered trucks and they pulled allot better. that MX13, in no way seems to be even close to the hp rating. i dont believe the fuel mileage is any better either. i average 4.5-5 mpg but its all hills and small towns. you get the truck up to speed and then your slowing down again in a few more miles. i drove a T800 with a C13, i could not believe how much more boost it makes 50 PSI. im lucky if the paccar in my truck gets 40 PSI. i think the older engines had more power and the HP ratings are greatly exaggerated

I agree with you 100%. My paccar falls on its face pulling any kind of grade.

you really notice it with a gross of 105K and its all hills. you might hit 30 mph going up steep grades...... i am also driving a truck with an 18 speed transmission. i wished my boss would have ordered trucks with cummins isx-15's...... actually the best trucks still on the market for our application would probably be a T800 glider with a C15. i dont know why he buys this under-powered paccar crap with gross loads like that

The c13 makes more boost because of the sequential turbos

i still think it makes more power. one of the other drivers said the emissions crap was taken off of that truck. if that's true that emissions crap is strangling power.

    Nothereoften and Brettj3876 Thank this.

peter? my truck is a kenworth T880 with a paccar engine. not saying its not a nice truck, but given the choice between T880 and T800 i think i would opt for a new T800. the T800 has been around since 1986, it has classic lines. no its not a W900 but it still looks good. i think when i started driving the T880 i was expecting better fuel economy and more power. i dont really think it has either of those two things. its only nice because its a new truck. if i owned the fleet i wouldnt be buying them. i dont think the T680 is any better

its weird because it revs up allot faster then the cat with no load. pull a heavy load it kind falls on its face. especially on grades. it's even more gutless with an auto-shift trans.
