Window won't go up the last two inches then I hear the motor slipping. Is the cable replaceable or do I have to buy the entire regulator? When the window comes down, is the "rope" supposed to just build up inside the door? Also, there is a black tube that goes into the door from the pillar and end in the bottom of the door. I'm guessing it's a drain? But from where?
I have a Freightliner Century. My drivers side window did that and it was the cable that chewed up the gears or visa a versa and the complete system had to be replaced. That was about $300 to do. Next I am going to replace the door hinge on drivers side. When it skips that is a good sign it is not worth messing with trying to repair.
the regulator isl 1 part. the tube is where the cable goes to when the window goes down. it's essentially the guide for the cable
It is the metal clamp that holds the glass at the bottom. The outside edge has rotted and is pushing the top edge of the clamp outward toward the lower window seal.As the window nears the seal, it catches and stops the window. I haven't figured out how to permenantly fix it but a flat sheet of metal inserted between the seal and the window, while the window is mostly open, will allow the clamp to glide over the seal and close fully. After taking the interior door cover off and visually inspecting the inner workings, I purchased a sheet metal joint for round furnace ducting from Home Depot (it comes open in a flat sheet about 18'' long), inserted and rolled up the window. Voila! And my mother thought I'd make nothing of myself...
