I had some trouble getting out of a particularly difficult receiver. The road crowns real sharp and so I put my PDL on to help. I ended up having to use momentum because one dual on the rear spun with no movement forward. Our mechanic said they do that sometimes and it's normal but I'm 100% convinced that's bull. Is there an actual reason why that would happen if it's functioning correctly? I didn't hear any leaks from the can, though that's no indication. It's a 2013 prostar, and I don't know the manufacturer of the axles.

I've had that happen with the FL I drove. I think it's a fail-safe to prevent something from breaking, maybe an overly cautious fail-safe... It will return to normal.

New trucks trying to think too much :)

Are you talking about a power divider lock or a differential lock? Locking the power divider will put power to the front diff I believe. IF you have an open differential, the side with the least traction will get 100% of the power (so your mechanic is right). If you have a differential lock as well then the power is split 50/50 regardless of traction. I'm guessing you have open diffs.

Open diffs, but only one dual spun. The PDL locks the drive shaft through the first axle making two open diffs. If I saw two duals spinning I wouldn't be complaining.

Oh, ok. Now that I think about it, I've had that happen in my 379 here and there so I'd be inclined to agree with skellr on post 2 or your mechanic.

Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

Yes. It's like having a really heavy tag axle.

Perfectly normal without diff locks, I've never understood how or why.
