ok, but not still a full on FL-DOT project? wasn't it more of a private project paid by the school (university???)
Not sure what Florida's financial involvement (if any) is. I would assume they have a certain amount of oversight at least. The Feds gave the university engineering program that is involved $11.4 - $12.4 million. I don't know if it was all for this project, or their engineering program in general. Nor have I seen a figure for the total cost of the project, but I am certain that's readily available.
ok, thanks. i haven't kept up with anymore of this tragic event, only what i am hearing on the radio news. which if it's a slow day, they talk about it.
FIU's bridge was supposed to spotlight its successes. It may be its biggest failure. Maybe all bridges built recently need to be looked into to see if an FIU graduate did any of the design work.
I guess, to be fair, that looks like an unusually long span to not have a center column support. And obviously their design concept needed more work.
