I am recent graduate of a cdl school oct '11 (315 hrs of training) I don't have a criminal record i've gotten 1 ticket in 2010 and had a reckless driving(motorcycle) in 2006. With all that said I got my cdl with all endorsements but passsenger, my work history was spot on till i got laidoff in Jan 09. I've worked since i was 15yrs old paid my taxes and i decided to take a vacation from work since i was receiveing unemployment and my wife makes pretty good money. I tried starting a buisness and did a lil side work to keep busy and really enjoyed myself till my unemploment exhausted. I got a 9.00 an hr job for about 4 months this year then i decided to go to school for trucking. Since I've graduated i have applied with countless companies and it seems my vacation from work backfired :biggrin_25524:especially when it comes to trucking. What can i do I've been totally truthful and it seems I cant catch a break because of that 2+yrs i was down!!! Pls give me some advice other than find a new profession!!

Call some of the major carriers and ask them you need a refresher course.

I'm a noob around here and to the trucking industry in general, so I don't understand it. I know carriers are pretty concerned about getting an accurate work history so they know who they're hiring.

With that being said, I'm confused as to why this is preventing you from getting work with anybody. It seems like you could produce proof of your unemployment and that should be OK. People draw unemployment every day in this country following the loss of a job. I don't understand these work history rules in the trucking industry; really, I'm interested to learn some of the thought behind it. Because to me, it seems like producing proof of unemployment would be enough...

They want the work history to see if you are a person that would stay or just jump ship at a short period of time. Training costs a lot and companies want to develop a workforce of drivers that they can depend on.

I think it's the reckless driving ticket holding u down not the employment. My opinion

I don't think a carrier with 100% turnover is concerned about somebody jumping ship .
