Hi. We have a 2012 kenworth t660. We are considering removing the bed and adding a sofa. Has anyone ever added or installed a top bunk or can it be done
My husband had a 2005 Volvo when he started driving. It had the table, with 2 bench seats that made down into a bed. It was like what a Winnebago would have. A little larger than a twin, but smaller than a double.
Some older KW s had a sofa that made into a bed for sleeping, it was called the studio bunk, the matt. was 2 sections long ways and it worked and looked good till it wore out
My 2004 t600 had the sofa bed it wasn’t bad just a bit narrow.. bunk is probably the same size as a t660 so I’d imagine parts are available at a wrecker
Not a KW,but my 84 IH 4300 Eagle glider I built had a double bunk bed. When flipped down,it was a sofa, flip it up,it was two beds. Just to give you an idea.
The volvo had a whole heck of a lot more headroom and storage in them compared to what is out there now. I didn't have any problems storing books, and crafts and all the cooking gear. Husbands Peterbilt now you can't sit on the bottom bunk with the top bunk out, you hit your head.
Cab pic,and the black truck is my 84 glider I built from the tan 77. Was always plenty of comfort and room for me. Liked the sleeper door on the right side, and liked the upper windows. Gave it a roomy feel.
I went the other way, I removed the sofas from 3 of my KW studio sleepers and put in the standard bed. Quite a job, I ended up using old regular sleepers and hucking in the factory parts. We thought the beds were horrible to sleep on and had no need for a sofa in the sleeper. Now that we have to spend more time sitting than driving maybe I went the wrong way lol. I should add that I was buying used, and it was very hard if not impossible to find an 84" bunk bed sleeper without a couch.
I'm in the process of buying a W900 and have the option of a fold down sofa or just a mattress. I'm leaning toward the mattress thinking it will be more comfortable while sleeping.
