Everything I intend to take along for the 6-week training period can be packed into 3, small to medium sized, suitcases. I have one that I'm thinking about replacing because it is not "mushable". The other 2 can be "mushed" a bit if necessary. All 3, even with the "non-mushable" one, will fit into a 3' x 3' x 2' cube of space in the sleeper. I've been living out of these 3 bags for the last month during school and, quite frankly, it hasn't been much of a problem.

Am I good to go? Lots of you team or ride along with your other halves or have been trainers. Am I really good to go or have I forgotten something?

(Again, I have lived A-OK with my sparse baggage for the last month.)

Probably good to go it sounds like. A decent trainer will have some closet space allocated for a co-driver, the rest can be at the foot of your bunk. Like a mesh laundry bag to keep your dirty drawers:biggrin_2559:.

    How was the school?

do you have a plan for getting prescription medication while on the road? that's if you take any. i always wondered how otr drivers took care of that!

30 day supplies, and as much as I try to keep my purchases local keeping your records with a national chain (Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Rite-Aide....) gives you some options on the road. Your doctor can call it in to a local shop and they can send it to your location. Talk with your doctor and explain your situation.

I do take a prescription med for high blood pressure. My plan, at least for now, is to have the script in the WalMart system so I can have it transferred to whichever store I might be close to when a refill is necessary.

My doc wrote the script for 10 refills so getting it called in ahead of time will not be a problem until well into 2011.

    Thanks!

that sounds like a great plan tazz!

oh! the other thing i thought of is your wallet. do you have your credit card #'s and phone #'s written down so can cancel them immediately if someone steals it? i scanned the front and back of mine along with my drivers license, and health insurance card then saved it on a usb drive. i keep the important medication info there too. list of meds, dr.'s name and phone number, that kind of stuff.

You'll be fine. In a few months you'll be looking at 12 volt refrigerators, echo mics and power inverters to power your TV that you bought an analog to digital converter for. You'll have a digital antenna in your truck watching pre-season football.

The most important item in the truck is the thermo-cup. That is a must! Might collect all the reward cards from the various "travel centers" formerly truck stops including the NATSN card that pays you back when you fuel there. A gold card doubles your points!

I bet you will do fine out there.

Yeah, travel light during training. It's much easier to haul a couple suitcases than suitcases and TV's and tools and refridge's etc. You may be switching trainers/trucks also. And on the subject of meds, does your Doc give you prescriptions for 90 days or 30 days? Wal-Mart and a few other pharmacys have 90 days supply for $10. (generics). I believe they're doing it nationwide.

OK, so fastforward to now and your trainer, remember, he/she may be a snot nosed kid with all of 8 months trucking experience and young enough to be your grand-kid! Just roll with the flow, it's only for a few weeks. Have a chat when you get on board, tell him/her what you expect, let him know you want to learn all you can, let him think he is the almighty trainer, even though he probably isn't, and get ready for an adventure. Yeaaaaaaahhhhhh!

That's a good idea, just make sure someone can't access that thumb drive.

I do the same. My wife is a manager at walmart. I went to the 3 month supply as well. I was home most weekends so I never had to get it filled on the road. Even when I went back to staying out 30 days at a time. If your script runs out wallyworld can even give you a couple days to get by on.
