Had a situation today, that I'm not sure I handled correctly

I was headed eastbound on i-44 crossing the boarder from oklahoma to missouri.

The situation involved the Joplin weigh station.

For those unfamiliar the setup is like this:

    west > ====prepass site ===== rest area ======= scale===> eastbound

My clock was running down and I need to take my half hour break.

I got the green light on the prepass to bypass the scale, but then I went to the rest area to take my break. About 50 minutes later when I got moving again I bypassed the scale.

After I passed the scale I began wondering if I should have gone in since the prepass bypass was given 50 minutes prior.

Will I get in trouble for this?

There's a sign at rest area.
It says you must go in.

How close (time) were you anyway.
Exit 4 is like 1/2ml after scale. Plenty of parking there.

I don't know if there is an actual time limit. But this one in particular has a sign that says so.

Probably best to go in always (other places) sign or no sign.
This isn't a common setup anyway.

    Sign.
You can also see it from I44 without getting of at Rest Area.

    I don't believe there's a time limit within reason.

Even if you did get chased down and Law Enforcement questioned you, PrePass has a record that you were given the Bypass Light that they should be able to access that same information.

A O/Op can go online to www.prepass.com and see the Bypass History of their Fleet or individual truck, so Law Enforcement should be able to access similar information if needed.

In the future, IMO, I would go past the Weigh Station before stopping.

I don't know if there is a time limit but in this case if you were going to get in trouble for it they would have already pulled you over.

The only proof YOU have is the little green light on your transponder. I'm not sure but I believe it only flashes for 15 mins. After that don't expect DOT to look anything up. Expect a ticket, one that you could probably beat in court mind you but one all the same.

No, you wouldn't beat it in court. Sign clearly states trucks coming from rest area must cross open scales.
