either way, it's going to cost you time and money to hire someone, vett them and make them aware of your rules.

teams can run more miles, which can mean more money, unless one driver just does not work as much as the other.

solo drivers can do the job as well, and if they don't move, they don;t get paid. but if a solo driver quits, 5,000 miles away from your location, good luck getting out there and getting your truck/trailer/load back. at least a team, if one quits, the survivor can bring the truck back, albeit later than you planned for.

    either way...to me...it's a crap shoot...

best you have ONE truck, and YOU be the driver.....rather than to try any "get rich quick scheme"....

Good teams re darn hard to find.

It is still possible to have a elite team sitting on fat ### in front of Americold for three days loading for a simple 1200 mile run consuming a whole 5 day work week. Like happened to us once. Bad dispatching I say. Really bad. All the fuel was burnt waiting and precooling. 400+ gallons worth total. (That's about 1200 dollars loss... in addition to losses not running them properly) A big company like FFE with a thousand trucks full of SOLOS in the LA area making a basic mistake like that? HA...

What are you planning to do with a team? If you can answer that, then go get one. If you are trying to be lured by the jackpot beyond your wildest dreams, don't do it. Why? Fuel. When they are running hard, I hope you have 300 gallons of fuel every 24 to 30 hours paid for them.

Not bashing you at all, it is a good question but I don't get it with people who think it makes more money while not seeing the big picture of the industry.

Teams are specific to a market need, they don't run general freight all the time, just because they can get it there a little sooner doesn't mean that you will make more money.

The biggest issue with teams is the dwell time between loads, that down time, and general freight doesn't always fill that gap so then the team gets out of their routine and then slows down.

then not for nothing, but you will be difficult to get along with....(and no, i don't know you)

if the co-driver doesn't do EXACTLY as you say, will you fire him on the spot, 5,000 miles away from home?

you would have to find someone EXACTLY like you, and that's impossible.

you very well may criticize him for every little blip mistake he makes, you may get ticked off by his habits, etc,etc,etc...

run your own truck, just YOU as a solo driver.

unless you have time sensitive freight, stay solo.....

too many other variables to mention about this, like pay, taxes, benefits, etc,etc,etc.....

and THAT IS something to take into consideration..you already have an investment in your company, rig, and freight customers...you WILL BE demanding of top notch performance from anyone, cuz you DO NOT want to lose anything.....that you saved for, and worked for to get where you are.

if you still want to go the co-driver route, then may i suggest you go to the local CDL school near you and explain your requirements to the placement director, and "see" what he/she can set up for a SMART, well groomed student, one that has COMMON SENSE, and NO BAD habits..???
