Hi my name is Ryan I'm currently working on a capstone project for Ryerson University. I was wondering if anyone in the community would mind answering a few questions about operations but more specifically the locks you use when transporting freight.
1) How long have you been in the transportation and logistics services industry?
2) Are your driver’s employees or contract workers (or both)?
a) Who owns the trucks?
b) How large is your fleet?
3) Have you ever experienced cargo/freight theft?
a) How often does this occur if at all?
5) What methods do you currently use to keep your trucks/cargo safe? (i.e. locks, paid security, alarms, motion detectors etc.)
a) What other options are available that you are aware of?
b) On average how much do the methods you currently use cost?
c) What kind of locks do you use right now - and how much do they cost?
6) Are there any external costs associated with cargo/semi-trailer theft (i.e. insurance increases, contract termination etc.)?
a) If theft does occur, who is liable (i.e. drivers, trucking company, company that contracted the trucking company etc.)?
b) Does insurance cover any or all of theft expenses?
c) Does it depend on coverage?
7) Is there any protocol for where you leave your trucks/cargo overnight?
a) If left in a special premise is it security patrolled?
8) When are drivers themselves liable for cargo or vehicle theft (if at all)?
9) How often do you update your locks?
I appreciate any responses!
