When doing local deliveries, my company often needs/wants to fill up the cab with product and I've heard a wide variety of information about how this might not even be legal... and how states like MA are real sticklers about the need for everything in the cab to also be secured while many other states don't care about it. As far as the FMCSA rulebook goes, I'm still looking for that kind of detail/rule but haven't found it yet. Can anyone help me out with this? Is it OK to put product in the cab of our truck? If so, does it have to be secured? Thanks for your input.
Not sure what kind of product you are transporting or the "laws"; have done it numerous times. Only speaking for " day cab " Out of the way from foot pedals / shifter. Nothing blocking the Passenger mirror was my rule and obviously nothing restricting use of seat belt. DOT never asked or provided a solution. 'good to go' ( northeast state )
I was over weight on my trailer once by 350 lbs, couldn't slide the axle because of 53 footer in California. So I climbed up and took 7 x 50 lb bags of peat moss from the trailer and put them up on my upper bunk. Although I was able to string a strap across to keep them from dropping onto me if I had to hit the brakes. Don't see why it wouldn't be legal as its a commercial vehicle, as long as it wasn't dangerous goods.
What kind of company are you working for that makes you put stuff in the cab? sounds like a joke. That made my day
They asked me to put a box containing a cat, a vile of posion, and a cesium atom in my cab. Still not sure if theres anything in it...
