do you gys run out your hours every day until you do a reset or fo you try to average them to run on recap to not reset?
Usually run recaps depending on area and known freight in area. If I have 3 or less hours I'll usually hang out, hardly ever reset on road.
Trip planning ... I have long stop and my short stop before I roll ... long the maximum I can make with the hours I have ... short is my fallback.
I usually know where and have backups before I accept preplans, parking and time of day are factors to accepting many loads for me. You get this over time with experience, "if I take this load will I be screwed after?".
I very rarely do a reset on the road. I try to average no more than 9hrs duty time per day over a week. Try to minimize your line 4 activities to Swifts minimums to leave more time for driving.
Depends on your definition of averege ... Swift's own metric is 1900 for a company driver on a 52 week year ... owner ops are higher ... personally I'm at 2400 on a 52 week year ... for the actual weeks I run, just under 3000.
As a company driver I average 2700 miles a week the year so far. I hardly ever do a 34hr reset, and I'm OTR
